The Hamra Streets Commercial Establishments Association announced the launching of one of the largest street festivals ever to be held in Lebanon, at Crepaway Hamra, in the presence Beirut municipality mayor Dr. Bilal Hamad and Beirut Deputy
The Hamra Streets Festival – Maraya 2011, will take place on August 30, 31 and September 1 , 2011.
Hamra, which will be closed to cars, is expected to attract more than 200,000 people over 2 day period.
It is to be favorably noted that pedestrians will be able to stroll freely through Hamra Street and its side-streets, Hamra Streets, as these will be closed off for traffic for the duration of the festival. This year, Maraya 2011 will focus on the idea of re- linking urban and rural landscape, coast and mountain, by promoting a national asset, Lebanese Apples.
Maraya 2011 will also start to create green areas or spots with benches in this part of the city as a first step, hoping in enlarging this step to other parts of the city.
During 2 days, Hamra Streets will showcase artists and artisans, institutions and NGOs, a wide variety of musical concerts, as well as a number of other street activities and live concerts on 2 days from 4h00pm till Midnight.
At the same time, boutiques, cafes and restaurants will offer a number of promotions and several competitions will be held for a chance to win one of 10 free round-trip tickets to Athens or Istanbul.
A large fireworks show will pronounce the official closure of the festival at 8:30 PM on Sunday, the party is expect to extend way through the night. The program and details of this event, which is sponsored by Hamra Streets supporting banks and institutions, will be announced during a following press conference.
